2021 Judge

Audubon Community Nature Center is pleased to welcome Karen Glosser as the 2021 judge of the Nature Photography Contest.

Planet Earth, our amazing home, is filled with wonder, awe, and incredible beauty. Around every bend, in every moment, we can find something extraordinary. Look around! What do you see in nature that inspires, astounds, soothes, or heals? Where in the natural world do you find joy, happiness, peace, or even a bit of magic?
Welcome to this year's Audubon Community Nature Center Photo Contest! As a nature photographer myself, I am so excited to see how each of you interprets and expresses this year's call for work!
In the midst of this pandemic, we are all dealing with much stress, anxiety, and sorrow. Our world has changed in ways we could not have imagined. However, one thing remains constant- the ebb and flow of nature's rhythm. Nature inspires a sense of awe and hope in us, even through gazing at photographs. Awe and hope lift us above. Awe also instills a sense of protection and love, and my hope is that your images will help us all want to care for our fragile planet by doing whatever we can to preserve and protect!
This year's call is divided into three categories:

Karen Glosser's work as a fine art nature photographer has led her to memorable places around the world. However, her native Western New York State remains her primary love and focus as she explores and captures the moody waves of Lake Erie and the silent woodlands near her home. Karen's images have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her evocative photographs are enjoyed by collectors throughout the US.

- Fauna - Any wild animal or insect. (Please, no photos of pets, zoos, or rehab animals.)
- Flora - All plants, fungi, lichen, etc.
- Landscapes and Waterscapes - Mountains, forests, fields, deserts, etc.; oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers, creeks, etc.
- Adult (18+ or post high school)
- Youth (8-18)
I am excited to see many different styles of photography submitted such as
- Representational - represents a place or thing realistically.
- Abstract - an image that does not have an immediate association with the object world.
- Macro - extreme close-up.
- Impressionist - painterly; may have blur, movement. Go ahead- break the rules!
